Goals and Objectives |
This
author visit involves a writers' workshop with published author, Patricia
McKissack. Students will be able to interact over a videoconference
with the author to gain valuable information about the writing process and
how real authors work to create and publish their work.

What
is videoconferencing?
|
After
having worked with videoconferencing in education for several years and
participating in thousands of actual videoconferences, we have come up with
a model that seems to work well to integrate this new technology into the
existing curriculums of schools. The key to a successful experience
is meticulous preparation on the part of the teacher.

This whole author visit model
actually consists of three videoconferences:
- First, Ms. McKissack
meets over videoconference with the teachers, usually after school,
to discuss what will happen during the actual author visit.
- Second, Ms. McKissack
meets with the students over videoconference
and conducts the pre-arranged lesson.
- Third, Ms. McKissack
meets again with the students over videoconference to give them feedback
about what they have written in response to their assignment.
