Fred and Patricia McKissack Author Visit Teleconference
ITV Protocol

  1. The bridge will connect all sites fifteen minutes before the program begins. The site facilitator should turn on the equipment and make sure the speed is at 384. Use your site # to dial in.  If you don't know your number, call us at 314-692-1274 or click here to view a chart with school names, contact info, and MCU dial in numbers.

  2. When all sites are connected, CSD will announce that everyone is connected and will take role call by asking each site by name, one at a time, to introduce themselves.

  3. Simply say the name of your school, the teacher's name, and the grade level. You may want people to gather in groups and say the name of the group and let everyone wave.

  4. After everyone at each site has introduced him/herself, the McKissacks will begin the program.

  5. As they speak, the McKissacks will ask each site by name if they have any questions or comments.

  6. If you want to respond, please start talking by naming your site first. Then say your name and your question or comment. For example, "This is CSD, and I am Ruth Block. My question is…" This procedure will give the camera a voice activated signal to focus the monitor to your location. Since the screen rotates by voice activation, you will need to talk for about six seconds before the screen rotates to your location.

  7. Please allow a person to finish talking before the next person speaks out. Two people cannot speak simultaneously over the system. Only one person at a time may talk.

  8. If you want the McKissacks' attention, say your site and name and wait to be acknowledged before speaking. For example, "This is CSD, and I am Ruth Block, and I have a comment to make." Then wait. The McKissacks will say, "Go ahead, Ruth."

  9. Please be sure to MUTE YOUR MIC when you are not talking, so the screen does not accidentally focus on your site and background noises do not disturb the conference.

  10. If possible, have a background sign with the name of your school somewhere in sight of the camera.
