Bevel: Student Safety
A Creation of a Safety Web Page Designed By and For Students

Introduction:

Safety at home and school is everyone’s business!  You, as a middle school student, can help prepare yourself and others for emergencies that arise by creating a safety web page focusing on one of 4 areas:  Winter Weather, School Safety, Tornado Safety or Fire Safety.

Task:

You will create a safety web page in Microsoft Word designed for an elementary, middle or high school student.  You will use a minimum of 3 web sites to find your information with 3 areas of interest and 5 complete sentences describing each area.

Process:

·         Select one of the following areas of safety below and choose 3 categories under it.

·         Use kid-friendly search engines to find and bookmark information about your topic such as Yahooligans, One Key or Kids Click.

·         You must use a minimum of 3 web sites to find your information.

·         Write out your information with at least 5 bulleted sentences in each category.  Put the information you find into your own words (no plagiarizing)

·         Open a new web page in Microsoft Word.

·         Create a heading with your main topic with your name and hour under it.

·         Type in the information that you have written out, making sure to state the information clearly and appropriate to the grade level.

·         Using Noodletools, document the web sources and any pictures that may be used.

·         Change colors, font size and style of the text; add pictures and a background to compliment your individualized web page.

·         Create one hyperlink that the student reading your web page may use to practice safety in your topic area.  It may be a word search created in Puzzlemaker or a site that has a quiz or activity.

·         Save the web page under your last name and hour.

·         Preview your web page by going to File and Web Page Preview.
