School Profile

FESTUS SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL is located 30 miles south of St. Louis in Jefferson County Missouri. The school hosts approximately 975 students in grades 9 through 12 daily and is fully accredited by both the state of Missouri and the North Central Association. The school has also been named a Missouri Gold Star School and a Missouri A+ School. Academically, the Festus School District was recognized for Distinction in Performance in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008. School colors are black and gold and the school mascot is the tiger.

The city of Festus has a population of 11,200 and is composed of a diverse population of both white and blue-collar workers. Many citizens commute to St. Louis daily for employment.

Grading System

  A = 96-100 A- = 93-95
B+ = 90-92 B = 86-89 B- = 83-85
C+ = 80-82 C = 73-79 C- = 70-72
D+ = 67-69 D = 63-66 D- = 60-62

GPA and Class Rank

GPA is calculated on a weighted 4.0 scale.

  • Weighted courses: American Literature, English IVA, Spanish III, Spanish IV, French III, French IV, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Advanced Biology, Physics, and Advanced Physics. Weighted courses are considered honors courses. Each weighted course counts for one extra grade point when compiling overall GPA.

Graduation Requirements

Students can earn one of the following types of diplomas:

  • Academic Diploma 24 Credits: 4 Communication Arts, 3 Social Studies, 3 Math, 3 Science, 1 Fine Arts, 0.5 Practical Arts, 0.5 Personal Finance, 0.5 Health, 1.5 Physical Education, and 7 Electives
  • College Preparatory Diploma 25 Credits: 4 Communication Arts (Level 3 and 4 must be advanced), 3 Social Studies, 4 Math (Algebra I and up), 3 Science, 2 Foreign Language, 1 Fine Arts, 0.5 Practical Arts, 0.5 Personal Finance, 0.5 Health, 1.5 Physical Education, and 5 Electives

ACT Scores

The class of 2009 consisted of 203 graduates, had an average ACT score of 21.5, and 75.4% elected to continue their education at a post-seconcary institution.
