Festus Academic Team

Varsity and junior varsity teams attend tournaments throughout the year. These tournaments are designed to test each team's knowledge in all areas including math, social studies, language arts, science, art, and music. Score points as you buzz in your answer!

Teams:
  • There is no more than 8 students chosen for the Varsity Team. Four will play at a time with substitutions made at appropriate times as allowed.
  • There is no more than 8 students allowed for the Junior Varsity Team. Four will play at a time with substitutions made at appropriate times as allowed.
  • In addition to knowledge about the subjects covered during competitions, students must also possess good citzenship and good sportsmanship skills.
Eligibility and Practices
  1. Students must meet all eligibility requirements as set by MSHSAA.
  2. Students must be in attendance at school the day of the meet if on a weekday or on that Friday if a competition is held on a Saturday.
  3. It is expected that students will be at all practices. A student may only be excused from a practice by the coach or administrator. the student needs to take the responsibility to talk to the coach ahead of time if he/she knows that he/she will have to miss practice.
  4. Students may participate in another sport and still be on the Academic Team. The Academic Team Coach will try to adjust practices to best serve the teams.
Meets
  1. Meet information will be made available to students and parents as it becomes available.
  2. No meets will start until after the second Friday in October.
  3. Most meets are on Saturdays. They will be spread throughout the school year, and a school cannot participate in more than 14 meets not counting District and State.
  4. Districts are in April and State is in May.
