SCHOOL PROFILE

FESTUS SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL is located 30 miles south of Saint Louis in Jefferson County Missouri. The school hosts approximately 970 students in grades 9 through 12 daily and is fully accredited by both the state of Missouri and the North Central Association. The school has also been named a Missouri Gold Star School and a Missouri A-Plus School. The faculty consists of a principal, an assistant principal, and athletic director/assistant principal, three counselors, an A-plus coordinator, a nurse, an activities director, and fifty-five teachers. School colors are black and gold and the school mascot is a tiger.

The city of Festus has a population of 10,000 and is composed of a diverse population of both white and blue-collar workers. Many citizens commute to Saint Louis daily for employment.

GRADING SYSTEM: A 96-100 A- 93-95

GPA AND CLASS RANK: GPA is calculated on a weighted 4.0 scale.
Weighted courses: American Literature, English IVA, Spanish III, Spanish IV, French III, French IV, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Advanced Chemistry, Physics, Advanced Physics. Weighted courses are considered honors courses. Each weighted course counts for one extra grade point when compiling overall GPA.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS: The classes of 2007-09 can earn one of the following:
Academic Diploma 23 Credits: 3 Communication Arts, 3 Social Studies, 2 Math, 2 Science, 1 Fine Arts, 1 Practical Arts, 2 Health/Physical Education, 9 Electives
College Preparatory Diploma 25 Credits: 4 Communication Arts (Level 3 and 4 must be advanced), 3 Social Studies, 4 Math (Algebra I and up), 3 Science, 2 Foreign Language, 1 Fine Arts, 1 Practical Arts, 2 Health/Physical Education, 5 Electives

ACT SCORES: The class of 2006 consisted of 196 graduates, had an average ACT score of 22.3, and 73.5% elected to continue their education.
