Digital Media Strand

Digital Media is the "fun" technology for students and teachers. Add podcasts to the toolbox of digital cameras, digital video, multimedia and animation, and teachers now have more choice to encourage learning in the classroom. METC's Digital Media strand is for anyone interested in seeing and learning the effectiveness of these tools and projects.

GarageBand Mechanics - Recording Arts and Composition in the Classroom A,T

There are dozens of applications for recording and organizing sound within a technology-rich learning environment. From composing original music for multimedia projects or movies to creating podcasts, thousands of educators and students have begun exploring sound in a whole new way thanks to Apple's GarageBand software. This session will introduce you to the basic features of GarageBand, offer tips, and curriculum centered projects for learning and implementing GarageBand in your curriculum. Whether you are a beginner or virtuoso, you will be able to create beautiful music in no time with GarageBand.

KidCast: Podcasting in the Classroom T

Podcasting has democratized the mainstream media landscape and provided an amazing new platform for student research, writing, and publishing. We'll take a look at understanding how this new medium works and how to participate in it from a technical point of view. More importantly, we will move the discussion forward into the curricular realm where we can consider the strengths and opportunties that podcasting can bring to teaching and learning efforts.

Podcasting with Garageband: From Start to Finish T

Everybody seems to be podcasting, but what is it, how do you do it and how is it used in the classroom? Podcasting is a way to automatically download and synchronize digital audio files from the internet to iPods, handhelds, or other devices that play digital audio files. There are podcasts recorded by educators for educators, recorded specifically for students, and made by students! In this session, participants will find and subscribe to podcasts, see how schools are using them, and learn to create their own. Come and see what podcasting has to offer.

“As a teacher in the classroom using intellectual works, what do I need to keep in mind about copyright law?” Refresh your awareness of copyright as it relates to your classroom. This session will look at these questions. 1. What is an intellectual work? 2. What are the 6 rights of copyright holders? 3. What are the four points of fair use? 4. What are some common misconceptions about copyrights? 5. What are some resources for learning about using intellectual works in the classroom?

ITV-Iveland Television: Hear It From the Students A,T
Barbara Morris

Fifth grade students at Iveland Elementary School videotape, log, storyboard, edit and critique to create a news show about their school. They will tell you how they accomplish this and share information to help you implement a similar program in your school. Handouts will be provided.
