The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is a nonpartisan, independent nonprofit organization. NBPTS offers National Board Certification, a voluntary process recognizing experienced teachers for the quality of their professional practice. Equally important, the rigorous process of attaining National Board Certification is a path to professional growth and improvement. Research conducted by the University of North Carolina has proven that board-certified teachers outperform their peers on all 13 key dimensions of generally recognized measures of good teaching. Almost three-fourths of the work samples collected from students taught by Board Certified teachers in the study reflected a high level of comprehension, compared to only three-tenths of the work samples of students taught by teachers who had not achieved certification.

Cooperating School Districts and the St. Louis RPDC assist with the NBPTS process by providing guidance, support and study groups, and assisting with production of the required videos.
